THE ALL-NEW 2023 MERCEDES-AMG S 63 E-PERFORMANCE. An 800 hp Segment Trendsetter!

Mercedes-Benz's inhouse tuner, Mercedes-AMG have just revealed the all-new AMG version of the W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the S63. The car we have all been waiting for? The S63 had been on test since 2020, 2 years of testing. Was the wait worth it? Yes!

The new S 63 E-Performance retains the V8 engine just as all its predecessors have been doing but this time with a whooping 802 horsepower or 590 kW, and an earth shattering 1,430 Nm of torque. That is a huge increase from the previous model S63 which had a total power output of 450 kW or 612 horsepower. Power is sent to all the four wheels through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G Transmission via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all wheel drive system. Mercedes-AMG claims that the luxury sedan will able to sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.3 seconds and go on to reach the electronically governed top speed of 290 km//h, with the optional AMG Driver's package of course. Now, the engine does not make all those enormous power figures alone, it is accompanied by an electric motor mounted at the rear with the new 13.1 kWh high performance battery from AMG which gives out the total output of 590 kW. The engine alone makes 450 kW/612 hp and 900 Nm of torque, which is the same as on the predecessor and the electric motor provides the additional 190 kW. The electric power alone will give you a range of about 33 km. And just a reminder, there will be no S 65 version of the AMG S-Class this time around.

The S 63 E-Performance comes with seven different driving modes namely; Electric, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual. All these provide different driving experiences in their own ways. Active engine mounts are also available this time around on the S63, which marks the use of those for the first time ever in the S-Class and again, makes the car the only one in this segment to be equipped with active engine mounts. Setting the bar higher, as always. The S 63 E-Performance comes with the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension and active roll stabilisation as standard. Rear wheel steering remains available on the car too, which will similar to the one on the standard S-Class models.

On the exterior, the car features AMG styling which means, more aggressive and sporty design theme. From the front, the S 63 E gets an AMG specific grille for the first time ever on the S-Class, and also that means it abandons the usual Mercedes-Benz Three Pointed Star hood ornament which has always been used on the S-Class models including the S63 AMGs, in favour of an AMG emblem as seen on the W206 C 63 E-PERFORMANCE. Lower down, AMG went to town with the styling, the car features bigger and more aggressive looking air intakes which can be speccd in carbon fiber as seen on this unit. From the rear, the quad tailpipes are the main giveaway, you will know it's a high performance car before even looking at the badges. The S 63 E gets the new AMG specific wheels too, which can be had in either black or silver. On the sides, the car gets more pronounced side skirts which can optioned in carbon fiber too, and V8 AMG E-PERFORMANCE badges on the front fenders to signify the car's powertrain.

Inside the powerhouse, luxury sedan has received some upgrades too to match the performance and remind you that you are in the high performance version of the S-Class but it's still just as luxurious. A 2-spoke AMG steering wheel comes as standard, you can also get carbon fiber trims on the dashboard now and center console. The seats are AMG themed too with the AMG emblem embossed on the head-restraints.

Mercedes-AMG claims a combined fuel consumption of 4.4L/100km for the S 63 E-PERFROMANCE of which is very impressive considering what the car is supposed to be. That is lower than what Mercedes claimed with C180d, just to put it into perspective. The fuel tank has a capacity of 76 liters. The boot space is greatly reduced though from 550 liters to just 305 liters of which is obviously due to the rear mounted electric motor.

Those are all the highlights you needed to know about the all-new MERCEDES-AMG S 63 E-PERFORMANCE. Overall, I think this is great looking car with great performance, how about you? Share your thoughts or opinions about the car below, does it look good? Are the power figures impressive to you or not?
