The rare & forgotten Japanese AMG.

Hello readers, today we will take a look back at one of the rarest AMG tuned cars ever made, the elegant Mitsubishi Galant AMG. Yes you read that right, AMG!

Let us take you on a history lesson for a second shall we? You see, back in 1989 before AMG became a Mercedes only in-house tuner in 1999, Mitsubishi struck a deal with them to tune the Galant to make it better.

The Mitsubishi Galant AMG was produced from 1989 to 1991 in a very limited number. Only 500 units were made and they were only sold within the Japanese market.

The German tuner reworked the internals of Mitsubishi's 4G63 engine to make more power, yes the engine was not built from scratch by AMG under the One Man, One Engine principle. AMG also made a few touches to the Galant's exterior. The suspension was also reworked. Unlike the other AMG "touched" Mitsubishi, the Debonaire V 3000 Royal AMG, the Galant had a lot that was done to it. We shall talk about the Debonair on another day.

With AMG's magic, the Galant AMG's resulting power output was 170 hp from 130 hp and 191 Nm of torque (141 lb-ft) max. However it must be noted that the engine remained Naturally Aspirated, no forced induction so that amount of power was quite impressive for a 2.0L Naturally Aspirated engine.

AMG wanted you to know who did the magic right?

The Galant AMG came in two versions being; the Type I and the Type II. The differences between the two was minimal, it was just a few exterior & interior changes.

Observe the minimal differences between the two..

Now let us conclude this article with by stating the specs of the Mitsubishi Galant AMG.
