SUBARU WRX tS SEDAN REVIEW
The Subaru WRX is one of the most popular compact sedans that have been around for a long time now, the first generation made its debut in 1993. Fast forward to 2021, the Japanese automaker released the latest version of the WRX sedan for he 2022 model year and, it wasn't exactly well received like the older generation WRX models. The car caused quite a lot of controversy across the internet mainly because of its design and the lack of a considerable power increase over its predecessor.
Now, having seen the car in person, up close, I can confidently say that it definitely looks better live than it does on pictures. The pictures do not do it justice. But still, the controversy regarding the looks is still justified or understandable, the excessive use of the black plastic cladding on the lower front end and the rear certainly makes it a bit less attractive than it should be. Had it been body coloured then it would definitely look ten times better. It kind of looks like tamed off-road vehicle to be honest. That's not exactly a bad thing for Subaru is it? We are familiar with their great heritage in rally racing.
EXTERIOR:
From the front, Subaru did not really make any drastic changes to the looks of the car WRX, one would even think it's a facelift of he previous generation WRX if they are not exactly familiar with the WRX. But for the noticeable changes, the LED headlights have been redesigned to look sharper and they come with daytime runningLEDs, that's expected from most new cars these days. In between those you have got a graphite coloured grille and lower down it features the black plastic trim, a lot of it, but it still looks good. Lower down the sides you get a set of fog lights on either side which is surprising because a lot of manufacturers have stopped offering fog lights on their cars these days. And again on the bonnet the car features functional hood scoop which also enhances the looks of the car.
Move around to the sides, the WRX tS gets a st of 18 inch alloy wheels and the wheel arch cladding in matte black-like plastic trim. This unit here is finished in Subaru's World Rally Blue colour and there's a total of eight (8) exterior colours to choose from.
And on to the rear, where the controversy stems from, the first thing you will notice is the huge black plastic diffuser. See, the rear is not that bad as people make it to be, it looks decent but he design could be better. The WRX also gets quad exhaust tail pipes which are real unlike in most new cars these days. One impressive feature about rear are the V-shaped taillights which look something like lava flowing when lit up. A built in boot lip spoiler comes as standard for a more sportier look also.
INTERIOR:
On the inside, the desing actually looks good. The WRX comes with sports seats which are covered in suede with red stitching all round and "WRX" letters embroidered on to the head rests in red. On the center the car comes with a vertical 11.6 inch touch screen for the infotainment which has both wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And for the driver, there's only one small 4.2 inch screen between the gauges on the instrument cluster it's not fully digital. A multi function steering wheel comes as standard which has STI badging on the bottom, it is not too thin nor too thick in he hands which is a good thing. In the rear, the sporty theme continues on the back seats with the red stitching and the use of suede on them.
ENGINE:
Under the bonnet of the WRX lies a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer-4 petrol engine making 202 kW of power or 271 hp, and 350 Nm of torque. In this particular unit here, power is sent to all the four wheels via a CVT but buyers have the option of a 6-speed manual transmission. Subaru claims that WRX will be able to do a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 6 seconds and reach a top speed of 248 km/h. Claimed fuel consumption figures are rated at 11.2L/100km in the city, 7.0L/100km on the highway and a combined consumption of 8.5L/100km. The fuel tank has a capacity of 63 liters and Subaru recommends premium unleaded petrol for the WRX.
